About IGIN

Founded in 2013, IGIN is a private clinic staffed by a team of 7 experienced fertility doctors and 4 skilled embryologists. In 2023, the clinic successfully carried out 911 IVF cycles, with 40% (364 cycles) involving donor eggs and 60% (547 cycles) using patients’ own eggs.

IGIN is situated inside a modern building that has been designed with your comfort in mind, with light colours everywhere that are said to evoke feelings of calm and comfort, so that you can start off your treatment the right way. With the bright and spacious design in the reception and waiting area you will feel like the sun is shining inside. There are five single recovery rooms, and even an ensuite recovery room, that should help you relax in peace.

When you first decide to contact the clinic you will have the option of having your first consultation remotely (online or by phone) and this initial consultation will last 45 minutes. If you prefer a face-to-face consultation this lasts an hour as it includes an ultrasound scan. If you do choose to have the online consultation, you will need to fill in a medical history form and you should be 100% honest as this will enable the doctor to have an idea as to what treatment you may need. It should also be noted that this initial consultation will be free.

With many treatment options available the clinic will be able to come up with a plan of treatment that is designed to work best for your specific case, so you may be wondering what treatment options are available.

IGIN - FAQ
What is the average cost of IVF with your own eggs at IGIN?

The average cost of IVF treatment with your own eggs at IGIN is 5,985 Euros, and is part of the ICSI package. The price of this is fixed and will include all stages of your treatment, from the preliminary consultation and planning of your treatment, up to the post-transfer stage which includes two pregnancy check-ups as well as two years of maintenance fees for any vitrified embryos. This treatment package includes the following:

  • Any ultrasound scans and hormonal screenings that are required, and these will be unlimited.
  • Preop evaluation which will include sedation, so the anaesthesia is included in the fee for the package.
  • ICSI, which is Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection and is a procedure whereby a single sperm is injected into the egg, which helps facilitate fertilisation.
  • Assisted Hatching, where a small crack is created in the zona pellucida of the embryo, can help the embryo implant in the uterus. This will only be performed if it is necessary for your situation.
  • Blastocyst Culture, where the embryo will be allowed to develop until it reaches the blastocyst stage, and this will be monitored using Embryoscope+, a state-of-the-art incubator which was designed to allow closer monitoring of the embryo during development.
  • Embryo transfer. Once the embryos have developed enough one or two will be transferred into your uterus.
  • Vitrification of remaining embryos. If there are any embryos left over from your treatment they will be vitrified and stored for two years. If you wish to pay for more than two years of storage then you may do so.
  • BHCG pregnancy blood test. This will determine whether or not your treatment was successful.

There is a lot more included in the treatment package, so be sure to speak to your doctor to find out everything. There may also be additional fees for any extra procedures that are not included in the fee, as well as medication costs, as the medication is not included in the price. When discussing your treatment you will be informed as to any additional fees or additional tests upfront, so that you will know the full price.

What are the costs of popular IVF add-ons at IGIN?

When it comes to popular IVF addons at IGIN there is no average price. This is due to the fact that when it comes to addons they do not have any at an additional cost, as they are included in the treatment plans that they offer.

What is the average cost of the egg donation cycle at IGIN?

The average cost of the egg donation cycle with IGIN is 8,665 Euros and you will undergo this treatment by choosing the egg donation package that the clinic has available. This cost includes the 7,465 Euros for your treatment and the 1,200 Euros for the medication that will be required for your donor. If there are any additional tests required that come with a fee then you will be notified beforehand so that you are fully informed of the full cost before treatment begins. One cost that is not included in this price is the cost of the medication that you will need, any medication you require will be an additional payment, but as with any extra tests you will be notified beforehand.

Included in this treatment plan is:

  • HERES Carrier Screening test. The HERES test is aimed to ensure that the male partner is matched with an egg donor so that she does not have any recessive mutation in common with him. For heterosexual couples using their own gametes, we want to know if they share a recessive mutation so further testing of the embryos can be done if that was the case.
  • Endometrial and Donor Preparation. There will be hormonal screenings and ultrasound scans performed on both you and your donor in order to prepare you both for the procedures you will undergo.
  • Lab procedures. All laboratory procedures that need to be performed and put in place in order to ensure everything goes smoothly will be included.
  • Sperm Selection. If sperm selection is required in order to ensure that the healthiest and most fertile sperm is chosen for the fertilisation of the egg, then this will be performed.
  • Advanced techniques. Techniques such as Assisted Hatching, where the zona pellucida is given a small crack to help with implantation, and Embryo culture to the blastocyst stage, where the embryos are allowed to develop for five to six days instead of three to four, will also be included. Your embryos will also be monitored using Embryoscope+, a state-of-the-art embryo monitoring system that was designed for closer monitoring of the embryos, and allows for the lab to ensure optimal development.
  • Transfer and rest. Once everything is ready you will undergo the embryo transfer, where one or two embryos will be transferred to your uterus. Once this is done you will need to rest in the clinic. If you have any embryos remaining you are able to have these vitrified for future use.
  • Post transfer. Once transfer is complete and a period of time has passed you will undergo a BHCG pregnancy blood test to determine if you have fallen pregnant, if the treatment was successful and you are now pregnant then you are also entitled to two pregnancy check-ups as part of your treatment.
  • If you have had any remaining embryos vitrified and stored, the treatment cost will cover storage for two years. If you wish to have them stored for longer, then you will need to pay an additional fee.

There is more included in this treatment plan so to find out everything you can discuss this with your doctor.

What kind of egg donor ethnicities are available at IGIN?

At IGIN they have a wide variety of egg donor ethnicities available, although when it comes to specific races of donors it can depend on availability at that moment in time as some donors may be more in demand than others. Egg donation is anonymous so you will be unable to select your donor yourself, or know who they are.

Donors are selected based on physical characteristics, blood group and phenotype (ethnicity). Once the initial preselection is done, we will perform the genetic matching and select a compatible donor.

As egg donation is such an important task all women who have chosen to donate must meet certain criteria in order to be able to donate. These are:

  • All donors must be between the ages of 18 and 30, this is because as a woman gets older her eggs become less viable, so this age limit ensures that all donors have eggs that are healthy and fertile.
  • Medical history. Donors are required to submit a full medical history for both themselves and their family, so that the clinic can be sure there is no history of any disease that can be inherited.
  • STI testing. The donor must be free of any sexually transmitted infections and will undergo testing to ensure that this is the case, as STIs can impact fertility.
  • Clean living. In order to ensure they are the best of health all donors must live a clean and healthy lifestyle, this includes no use of drugs or anything unhealthy. This way there will be no impact on the health of their eggs.
  • Blood tests. Blood tests will be performed on the donors and this is to screen for any genetic diseases that might not have appeared in the family history, this is because a genetic disease may have never been diagnosed or experienced in the medical history that they know of and a blood test can detect thousands of these.

Thanks to these strict requirements you can be sure that any egg donations that you receive will be healthy and fertile.

What is the cost of PGT-A and how should it be calculated with IVF programs at IGIN?

The cost of PGD/PGT-A with IGIN is 2,770 Euros and this cost should be added to the treatment package you are required to have in order to determine the final cost. For instance, if you are undergoing IVF with your own eggs then you will be paying 5,985 Euros and then an additional 2,770 Euros for the PGD testing, so you will pay 8,775 Euros in total.

PGD stands for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis and is performed in order to determine whether or not there are any genetic diseases within the embryo that can hinder development or have an impact on the life of the child once born. With this testing being performed you will only have the healthy embryos that are free of genetic disease transferred.

PGD it is mandatory when patients aged 40 or over are using their own eggs or when the male partner providing the sperm is aged 50 or over. There are other specific cases when PGD might be recommended and patients who do not have a medical recommendation for PGD testing can choose to add it to their treatment.

Whilst this testing is available for all would-be parents there are certain situations where the test being performed is more beneficial than others. Situations such as:

  • Women who are over 39 years of age will benefit from this test as there is a higher chance of babies being born with genetic defects in older women.
  • History of single-sex disease. Sometimes genetic diseases will pass down to only one gender in a family, and this can stop some people from having children due to not wanting to risk having a child with this issue. This test can work to prevent this as you will know beforehand which embryo has the genetic disease.
  • Abnormal karyotypes. If you have chromosomal abnormalities then you may not wish to pass them on to your child and because there is no guarantee of this happening the test is the best way to be sure.

There are other situations that will benefit more from this test, if you wish to know more or see if you fit into one of the categories that will benefit then speak with your doctor and they will tell you everything you need to know.

What is the cost of donor sperm from the bank at IGIN?

The cost for donor sperm with IGIN is 435 Euros. Donor sperm is available for heterosexual couples who require a donor for a variety of reasons, single women who wish to become a mother, and female couples who wish to undergo fertility treatment in order to have a child together. Donor sperm is available in multiple ethnicities, although the availability may change depending on the demand at the time, and the donors being available. Still, there is no waiting list, regardless of ethnicity. You will be matched with your donor as closely as possible according to certain characteristics, however, due to the donation being anonymous your doctor will be choosing your donor as you will be unable to know who they are.

When it comes to donors they are thoroughly tested to ensure that they are healthy and that their sperm is fertile, so that you will only receive donations that are good for you. There are strict requirements that all donors must meet in order to be considered a donor:

  • Donors must be between the ages of 18 and 50. The reason that the donor age is higher for sperm donors than egg donors is that sperm can remain fertile in men for longer than eggs in women.
  • Medical history. A complete medical history of both the donor and their family will be taken to ensure that there are no diseases or illnesses that run in the family that can pass down through their donation.
  • Blood test. A blood test will be performed to ensure that there are no genetic diseases that the donor may not know about that can pass on through their sperm. The test that is performed can detect thousands of genetic diseases.
  • STI testing. Sexually transmitted infections can have a negative impact on fertility, especially if the person donating has one at the time of donation, so a test is performed to ensure that the man is free of any STIs.
  • Drug use is a big no-no when it comes to being a donor, as it can negatively impact the health of the donor and the health of the child, so all donors must be clean and not use illegal substances of any kind. They must also have a relatively healthy lifestyle, so must not have any unhealthy habits.

If any of the would-be donors fail to meet the requirements that have been laid out then they will be unable to donate, and this is to ensure that when you receive donations they are the healthiest and most fertile donations possible.

What is the average cost of the ROPA (IVF for same-sex female couples) cycle at IGIN?

The average cost of ROPA treatment with IGIN is 6,170 Euros. ROPA treatment is Reciprocal IVF and is for lesbian couples who wish to undergo treatment in order to have a child together. The treatment involves one of the couple donating her eggs in order for them to undergo the process whereby they become embryos, and the other woman in the couple will receive the embryos once they have reached the correct stage of development. This way both of the couple will be fully involved in the process and the baby will truly be theirs.

Due to ROPA being for all-female couples a sperm donor will be required in order for the treatment to proceed. By Spanish law, the sperm donor is selected according to the physical characteristics, blood group and phenotype (ethnicity) of the recipient, this is the woman carrying the pregnancy. The donor will be anonymous to you so you will be unable to know who the donor is. Donation is strict and donors must meet certain requirements in order to donate, ensuring that any sperm you receive for your treatment is healthy and fertile.

The price you pay for this treatment will include all hormonal screening and ultrasound scans that you require, as well as the following laboratory methods and techniques:

  • Assisted Hatching. This is where the zona pellucida of the embryo is cracked slightly so that when the embryo is transferred into the uterus it can have a better chance of successful implantation.
  • Embryo Culture. Your embryos will be allowed to develop for five to six days instead of the usual three to four, this allows the embryos to reach the blastocyst stage and have a higher rate of successful pregnancy.
  • Embryoscope+. Using a state-of-the-art embryoscope allows for better monitoring of the embryos during their development so that the laboratory can ensure that their development is going smoothly.

For full details of what your ROPA treatment will include you can speak to your doctor when you go for your consultation and they will discuss everything with you, including all of the costs and any additional tests that you may require.

What is the average cost of embryo donation at IGIN?

When it comes to embryo donation at IGIN there is no average cost available, as embryo donation is not currently available with the clinic but may be offered in the future.

What is the average cost of egg freezing at IGIN?

The average cost of egg freezing with IGIN is between 1,655 Euros and 2,485 Euros. The actual price you pay will depend on which option you choose, as you are able to choose to have your eggs frozen for two years, or have them frozen for five years. The cost of freezing them for two years is 1,655 Euros and the cost of freezing them for five years is 2,485 Euros.

Regardless of which option you choose, you will need to go through the same procedures, beginning with hormonal therapy which has been designed to help you produce as many eggs as possible. You will then undergo monitoring so that your follicular growth can be monitored, and once this stage is over you will be required to undergo egg retrieval, but you will receive some general sedation during this process. Once your eggs have been retrieved they will be vitrified and stored safely for your future use.

There are a few reasons as to why you may wish to have your eggs frozen:

  • Cancer. If you have cancer you may be required to undergo chemotherapy treatment, and unfortunately, this treatment can have a negative impact on your fertility. Freezing your eggs before this treatment can ensure that when your treatment is over you will have healthy and fertile eggs ready for you to have a child.
  • Education and/or career. Education is a long process and especially when you study more advanced courses that require five to seven years, and once your education is over you will want to begin your career in your chosen field. By the time you get to the point in your life where you are happy, you could be at least 35, when your eggs are no longer as fertile. Freezing your eggs at a young age can preserve your fertility for when you have reached the stage of your education or career that you wanted to.
  • Finances. Everybody knows that having children isn’t cheap, so some people wish to get themselves into a better financial position before having children. This can take time and a lot of effort, so having your eggs frozen before you begin can take a lot off your mind, as you will know that you have healthy eggs waiting for when you are in a great financial position.
  • Love. Meeting the right person isn’t as easy as they make it out to be in television shows and movies, it can take a long time before we meet someone we are truly comfortable with, especially when it comes to having a child. If it takes too long then your fertility can be impacted by age, so freezing eggs until you have met the right person to have children with is a great option.

Whatever the reason for freezing your eggs you can be sure of healthy and fertile eggs when you are ready to have a child.

What are the average costs of intrauterine insemination and donor sperm insemination at IGIN?

The average cost of Intrauterine Insemination and Artificial Insemination with Donor at IGIN is between 775 Euros and 1,210 Euros. IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) costs 775 Euros and AID (Artificial Insemination with Donor) is 1,210 Euros as this also includes the price of the donor sperm for 435 Euros. The procedure is the same for both options, as the only difference is whether you use sperm from your partner or sperm from a donor.

The procedure is performed by placing sperm directly into the uterus by using a thin catheter, it pushes the sperm into your uterus which helps with direct fertilisation. The reason it is performed like this is that when sperm tries to make its way to the uterus through intercourse only a small fraction can make it, which means there are fewer sperm cells to perform fertilisation. However, with IUI all of the sperm will end up in the uterus, allowing for a higher chance of successful fertilisation due to there being more sperm cells present. The procedure itself is minimally invasive so you will not require any anaesthesia or pain medication while it is being performed, all you will feel is a slight pinch and some cramping as the catheter makes its way through your cervix.

If you are required to undergo AID, for a variety of reasons, then you will have your donor chosen for you by your specialist who will choose them based on certain characteristics in order to be as close a match to you as possible. However, sperm donation is anonymous so you will be unable to know the identity of the donor or see any pictures of them. You can be sure that all donors are healthy and fertile as they must undergo testing and meet strict criteria to ensure that there is nothing about their health or life that can have a negative impact on the donation.
