Wessex Fertility announces the birth of the first baby in Southampton to be born using a ground-breaking new approach to IVF, the ‘Early Embryo Viability Assessment’ (Eeva) test, that improves embryo selection.
Baby Oliver Lush-Campswas born on 17th October to parents Katy and Jonathan Lush-Camps weighing a healthy 7lb 4oz. With the doctors giving the couple only a 1% chance to conceive a baby naturally, Katy and Jonathan decided to try to conceive with the help of IVF at the Wessex Fertility clinic.
Tony Price, Embryology Manager at Wessex Fertility said: “The Eeva system has allowed us to assess embryos from a new perspective and gather a lot more information which may be helpful in selecting the best quality embryos for transfer. The main advantage of this technology is that we are able to identify embryos which have an extremely low chance of advanced development, and these can be excluded from use in treatment. At Wessex Fertility we strive to offer our patients the latest innovations in IVF and the best possible outcomes. I am very happy for baby Oliver’s parents and proud of what Wessex Fertility has achieved.”
Eeva is designed to improve in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes by providing clinicians and patients with objective information that will enable them topredict embryo viability. The test uses software to measure key scientifically and clinically validated cell-division parameters from video images. It is the first and only non-invasive IVF test clinically proven to improve the accuracy of selecting embryos that will likely grow to the blastocyst stage, a critical milestone in embryo development.
Katy, Oliver’s mother said: “I always wanted to have children & never imagined there would be any problems getting pregnant. After we were told we wouldn’t be able to conceive naturally, we embarked on the IVF journey, which I now know is not an easy route to take! But now that our little Oliver is here with us, we are so thankful. Oliver is the cutest little boy ever (not that we are biased)! He is a little pickle at times but on the whole is a good boy and very much loved. He really is our little miracle”
