Is IVF worth the risk with AMH under 1?

Answered by Dr Natalia Szlarb, fertility specialist

Yes, IVF may still be worth trying with AMH under 1. Dr Natalia Szlarb explains that a lower AMH result may mean that fewer eggs are collected, but a smaller number of eggs does not necessarily mean that the eggs or resulting embryos will be of poor quality.

Doctor’s Answer

Every IVF is worth the risk as long as we generate blastocysts, embryos on day 5 of development, and as long as we define that they are genetically normal. Yesterday we did a social freezing of a lady at the age of 38 and AMH 0.7.

She was able to generate 7 eggs, 5 mature ones and 5 of them got frozen. We are encouraging her to do one cycle more in December to have at least 10 mature eggs. Do something called egg banking.

Fertilize all of her eggs, generate at least 5, 6 blastocysts and at least 1 genetically normal one. So never give up, allow yourself for a cycle and sometimes you have fewer eggs, but good quality and you still can be a mom.

This is a gap where patients may fall for the most common IVF treatment traps during their infertility journey.
