About IERA Lisboa

IERA Lisboa Quirónsalud is a private fertility clinic located in Lisbon city centre, with an additional clinic location in Badajoz, Spain. The Lisbon clinic opened in 2018, while the Badajoz clinic has been operating since 2001. The clinic is easily accessible from Lisbon Airport, with travel time of approximately 15–25 minutes by taxi and around 35 minutes by subway. Iera Lisboa Quirónsalud supports both local and international patients and can assist with travel arrangements through a partner travel agency.

The clinic is located inside a polyclinic surgical centre, with free parking and disabled access available for patients. The centre has been thoughtfully designed to meet quality and safety standards, combining clinical excellence with a welcoming, discreet, and professional environment. Its facilities include 2 laboratories, 1 operating theatre, and a spacious recovery room with 3 beds separated by curtains for privacy.

It is worth knowing that in 2024, the clinic performed around 250 treatment cycles, including 150 IVF cycles with own eggs and 35 egg donation cycles.

The clinic offers free online consultations for international patients, allowing you to discuss your case with a fertility specialist from the comfort of your home. If you prefer an on-site consultation at the clinic, the consultation fee is €120.

IERA Lisoba provides treatment options for single women, heterosexual couples, and female same-sex couples, including ROPA.

Under Portuguese law, the maximum age for female patients is 50, and gender selection for family planning is not permitted.

IERA Lisboa holds a ISO accreditation 9001-2015.

At IERA Lisboa, the medical team is led by Dr Jose Antonio Dominguez, PhD, Medical Director and Gynecologist with 30 years of experience. He speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish, and has a strong background in reproductive medicine, embryonic development, genetic and prenatal diagnosis, research, and teaching. He is also a member of several professional societies, including SEF, ASEBIR, and ESHRE.

Patients are supported by an experienced team of fertility specialists, embryologists, and patient coordinators who work with both local and international patients. The medical team includes

  • Dr Ana Aguiar, Gynecologist with 27 years of experience, speaking English and Portuguese;
  • Dr Eduardo Rosa, Gynecologist with 20 years of experience, speaking English and Portuguese;

Both female and male doctors are available, and patients usually remain with the same doctor throughout treatment, from the first consultation onwards, unless a change is needed for medical, practical, or patient-requested reasons. The clinic also has 4 embryologists; the senior embryologists have 20 and 35 years of experience, and one senior embryologist is ESHRE-accredited.

Patient Care Team at IERA Lisboa

IERA Lisboa supports international patients throughout the treatment process, with personal coordination provided by Patient Care Coordinator Leandro Coelho, who has 10 years of experience in international IVF clinics and speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish. In 2025, Leandro Coelho was also awarded the Best Fertility Patient Care Assistant Award by the European Fertility Society. This award recognises patient care professionals who go above and beyond in supporting fertility patients, helping each individual feel seen, valued, and reassured throughout their treatment journey.

Patients can contact the clinic by email, WhatsApp, or phone, and the usual reply time is by the next working day.

Before the first consultation, patients are asked to send their personal data form, GDPR consent, and any previous test results, examinations, or IVF treatment reports, preferably by email or WhatsApp. The clinic can perform all necessary tests on-site, including blood tests, ultrasound, and spermiogram, and also works with partners to help arrange tests abroad. Medication cannot be shipped due to Portuguese law. Patient support is available daily from 9:00 to 20:00; outside these hours, patients are advised to contact local emergency services.

IVF and Egg Donation at IERA

IERA Lisboa currently has no waiting time for IVF treatment with your own eggs or donor eggs. This means patients can usually begin the process without delay, depending on their medical preparation, test results, and individual treatment plan.

For egg donation treatment, egg donors are matched manually according to the patient’s preferred phenotype and blood type. The clinic may use photos of both the patient and donor to support the matching process. Patients can receive information about the donor’s phenotype, blood type, age, and profession, if requested. Available egg donor ethnic backgrounds include Caucasian, Hispanic/Latino, and African donors.

For sperm donation, matching can be based on phenotype and blood type, if requested. Patients may ask IERA to select a suitable sperm donor, or they may choose a specific donor directly through the clinic’s partner cryobanks, CRYOS and European Sperm Bank. In this case, patients can review the available donor information provided by the sperm bank, except adult photos. The selected donor must be approved by IERA before purchase.

IERA Lisboa offers a range of IVF laboratory techniques and reproductive technologies. The clinic uses Geri incubators for all IVF/ICSI cycles and offers embryo monitoring, assisted hatching, embryo and gamete freezing, EmbryoGlue, ROPA treatment, and PRP treatment for both ovarian and endometrial indications. Embryo donation may be available but is evaluated case by case. Surrogacy is not implemented in Portugal, and nuclear transfer is not permitted.

PGT-A is available in Portugal under specific indications. At IERA Lisboa, it may be considered for women aged 37 or older, or for patients with recurrent implantation failure or recurrent pregnancy loss. The clinic also offers PGT-Complete, including Genetic PN-Check and parental origin of aneuploidy analysis.

The clinic uses several additional diagnostic and laboratory technologies, including Gidget traceability software for gametes and embryos, Planer bench-top incubators, ZYMOT advanced sperm selection, Halosperm testing for sperm DNA fragmentation, sperm FISH, and advanced culture media with antioxidants. All seminograms include REM testing and a 24-hour sperm survival assay. IERA Lisboa also uses specific embryo transfer media containing hyaluronic acid, such as UTM and EmbryoGlue, or cytokines such as GM-CSF, as well as AI-supported embryo morphokinetic monitoring through GERI Assess 2.0.

Patients can also access wider diagnostic and specialist support at the clinic, including diagnostic hysteroscopy and consultations with specialists such as a geneticist, immunologist, urologist, nutritionist, and psychologist, depending on their individual needs.
