Best IVF clinics in Europe

Laura Cook provides insights into the best fertility clinics. The accompanying image portrays a plane taking off.

Last updated: January 6, 2026

Europe offers some of the best IVF options globally, with strong success rates, modern embryology labs, and internationally oriented clinics. Many patients choose destinations such as Spain, Greece, the Czech Republic, Portugal, North Cyprus, and Latvia, where they find accessible pricing, multilingual staff, and broad eligibility criteria.

This guide provides a clear overview of popular IVF destinations in Europe and a practical decision framework to help you determine which clinic is right for you.

Best IVF Clinics in Europe – Summary

  • Europe hosts several IVF hubs: Spain, Greece, Czech Republic, Portugal, North Cyprus, Latvia.
  • Reasons to travel: competitive pricing, regulated donor programs, modern labs, and availability for single women and same-sex couples (depending on country).
  • Treatments available across these regions: IVF with own eggs, egg donation, embryo donation, PGT-A, and shared motherhood (ROPA).
  • There is no single “best” clinic — the right choice depends on your history, expectations, and timeline.
  • Choosing a clinic requires clarifying costs, success rates, communication style, donor matching, visit requirements, and medical approach.

Top IVF clinics and destinations

Here’s a snapshot of where to find some of the best IVF care in Europe:

IVF in Spain

Spain is one of Europe’s best-known destinations for IVF treatment abroad, largely because treatment pathways are well-established, clinics are experienced with international patients, and donor programmes are widely available. Many patients choose Spain for the combination of medical infrastructure, clear treatment processes, and the ability to access different IVF options in one place (including IVF with donor eggs).

Below you’ll find some of the most popular spanish ivf clinics:

Clinica Tambre

Located in: Madrid, Spain

Check IVF costs and success rates at Clinica Tambre

Clínica Tambre is a pioneering medical-surgical centre specialised in gynaecology and fertility located in the heart of Madrid. It was founded in 1978 and is a private clinic. In 2017 it carried out about 1000 treatment cycles. Its mission is to help patients fulfil their dream of giving birth to a healthy baby, and contribute to the development of science, medicine and society.

The clinic supports a range of fertility treatment pathways, including IVF with own eggs and IVF with donor eggs, with clinical planning guided by careful assessment and monitoring throughout the cycle.

Statistics: Each year, the clinic performs approximately 1,276 IVF cycles, reflecting extensive hands-on experience across a wide range of patient profiles. This includes 511 cycles using patients’ own eggs and 765 cycles with donor eggs, highlighting strong expertise in donor-egg treatment pathways. In 2019, single-embryo transfer outcomes showed high effectiveness, with a 70% success rate using fresh embryos and 64% using frozen embryos, demonstrating consistently strong results across different embryo types.

Google Reviews:

As patients from the UK we have been amazed by the thorough service that Clinica Tambre offered. It was a big step deciding to complete our treatment abroad, but upon meeting the Clinica Tambre representatives we knew that however our journey turned out they were the best choice for us. I thoroughly researched treatment abroad prior to this. We met Katie at the fertility show London in May 2022 and by June we had our first appointment in Madrid. Katie arranged the timings of the appointment, the hotel for the first night and transfers from the airport to the clinic or hotel. We had a face to face appointment, full bloods, Seminal analysis and genetic testing done on the same day – Obviously we had to wait for the results and we did pay extra for the genetic test. The second appointment was completed over video call with the results and to make a plan for the treatment. Clinica Tambre offered several different packages and Shannen our clinical link explained all thoroughly.

Clinica Tambre are very transparent with their costings and you pay what you are shown on the package. If there are extra costings for different testing not included in the package they will let you know straight away. This is unlike some of the UK clinics that we have experienced. We paid via the payment request links as it was easier to keep track and see what we were paying in pounds via our bank accounts.

Dr Marban was the consultant that we met with for every appointment and every ultrasound. If we had a problem we could contact the patients team and they would contact Dr Marban straight away and get back to us with a response. The people we mostly contacted during treatment on the patients co-ordination team were Sandra or Maria. I can only sing their praises at how wonderful they were with us, especially as I probably was the irritating patient emailing/calling all hours of the day. They didn’t once make me feel like a nuisance. Everyone that was involved in our care spoke fantastic English, very compassionate and made us feel at ease at all times.

Once we selected our package, we made the decision that we would live in Madrid for the duration of our treatment – we stayed at Sonder apartments. I honestly think this was the best decision as it made us stop our daily lives and fall into the treatment cycle. We also explored Madrid and experienced all the amazing things that it had to offer. We found an apartment close to the Metro and it couldn’t have been easier!

We started our initial ICSI treatment in July 2022, however, had to stop after the egg collection as I unexpectedly experienced OHSS. I was poorly whilst exploring Madrid and fainted, my partner called the clinic and within the hour Dr Marban had seen me, completed an ultrasound and blood test and given me medication. We then decided that the best option was to wait a month or for the ovaries to recover before the embryo transfer. We completed our frozen embryo transfer in August 22. Both my egg collection and transfer were completed by an all female team, which, although not necessary made my personal experience so much more empowering.

My partner and I decided that whatever the outcome from the collection and transfer, Clinica Tambre is a clinic second to none. The doctors, nurses, embryologists, reception, admin, patients team, cleaning staff … everyone, were absolutely amazing in their care and compassion.

We are very lucky in our experience and we are now almost 23 weeks pregnant, thanks to everyone at Clinica Tambre. We don’t have any other embryos left but if and when we make a choice for fertility support again they are our first and only choice. We are forever thankful for the positive experience during treatment, not only the outcome.

Highlights;

– Easy contact links via telephone or email to the patients teams.

– Multiple languages spoken (for lazy people like us that are not able to speak another language well).

– Clear information given on costings and costing expectation

– Prescriptions easily collected from local pharmacy to clinic.

– Brilliant team!

Google Reviews:

From the first consultation til today we have had the upmost care and support from all the team at UR VistaHermosa. We can’t recommend these amazing people enough.

Coming from the UK we didn’t once have any fears of using this clinic in Alicante. The team gave us every support necessary and were on the end of the phone at all times (even out of hours!) They were informative, understanding, caring, kind, knowledgeable and brilliant at what they do. Our minds are blown over the science of IVF and how these incredible people make magic happen.

We are lucky enough to have a positive pregnancy so far. We still have a long way to go but either outcome we will always be truly grateful for the love from UR VistaHermosa. By far the best clinic. We tried 3 in London and none of them came close to the care we got from UR VistaHermosa. Thank you thank you thank you.

Google Reviews:

This is a fabulous clinic, taking time with their clients to create a  bespoke treatment plan. It really felt that they were tailoring everything to maximise your chance of success. From my first contact with the clinic to attending for treatment, everyone there was a pleasure to deal with.

Upon commencing a treatment programme with the clinic, a direct point of contact is established with whom you can communicate directly. Anastasia was my personal care assistant and she was excellent – always on hand to answer my questions and polite, knowledgable and reassuring. The service was second to none.

Dr Castillo was exceptional also. He was meticulous in gathering a full clinical history and was available for consultations both remotely and in person; based on which he recommended a personal treatment plan.  He took time before, during and after the treatment to consult, explaining everything in detail and answering all questions.

I owe Anastasia and Dr Castillo a huge debt of gratitude; their kind manner, patience and excellent care has been absolutely invaluable and made my miracle happen. Words are a very poor substitute for how happy and thankful I am to IB and Anastasia and Dr Castillo in particular. Thank you.

Treatment pathways typically include IVF and donor-egg IVF, with clinical decisions guided by patient history, diagnostic findings, and cycle monitoring.

Statistics: Clinical pregnancy rate per embryo transfer (donor eggs): 61.3%

Google Reviews:

I decided to go to Spain after having poor exepriences with IVF in the UK and I came across Repro after doing some research, I’m super happy that I went with them!

From the first contact until now I’ve had a really pleasant experience. My nurse (Isabelle) was always really helpful and my Doctor (Alicia) is just the best, I wish she was my doctor here in the UK…

The clinic is big enough to have enough time to offer me the personal care and time, but small enough that I only ever speak to the same few people. I understand that in some of the bigger clinics patients are put through to lots of different people and never build a relationship with their clinical team, but this was not the case at Repro. Depending on the outcome of my first own egg round with them, I will definitely consider using them for egg donor treatment if needed.

The journey of infertility is a long and hard one and my Doctor/Nurse made it that little bit more comfortable for my husband & I which I am very grateful for.

Thanks to the outstanding hard work, commitment and support from everyone at Irema my wife and I finally realised our dream of becoming parents to a beautiful, healthy daughter. We felt exceptionally well cared for throughout our treatment, from our initial consultation in UK, from to our our first visit to the clinic to the last.

With each cycle we saw continuous improvement in the results and through the expertise of all at the clinic, we were finally able to be successful where two UK based private clinics had failed.

Equally important as the expert treatment, is the genuine care that everyone had for us throughout. The staff really care about not just ensuring that everything is being done to help you have a child, but that your emotional and mental well-being are equally cared for. They are there for you around the clock, even at weekends to answer questions and offer advice and support.

Thank you so much to all at Irema, you really are miracle workers!

Google Reviews:

Our experience at Eugin so far has been wonderful. We have Dr. Elena Calvo and she has been brilliant. We flew to Barcelona from Colorado in March for testing and for my husband to freeze his sperm. My husband received a call about a week ago with the results of his genetic test. The geneticist kindly explained his results. We just submitted our photos yesterday to be matched with our egg donor! We’re beyond excited!

Coincidentally I found out yesterday that I’ll be in Barcelona for 24 hours on Friday (I’m a flight attendant) so I messaged the clinic asking if they could have a local pharmacy have my medication ready. The clinic messaged me back in less than 24 hours confirming they could do this and including the name of the pharmacy that would be reserving the meds for me along with a reservation number. We are so impressed! We feel confident we’re making the right decision in choosing Eugin. I appreciate how responsive and accommodating they have been. We like that they have such a large egg donor database. I am tall, blonde with green eyes, and we’re confident they can find an excellent match. We can’t wait for our first embryo transfer! Highly recommend!

I really wanted to leave a review here because I know how much reading other people’s experiences helped me when I was choosing my clinic.

I never imagined that a doctor could have such patience and kindness toward a patient. I am specifically referring to Dr. Sánchez, for me, it was something truly incredible. Dr. Sánchez chose the best treatment for me! I felt so good during the process that I almost thought something wasn’t working properly! 🙂 I was not used to this level of care based on my past experiences in both Romania and UK. I sincerely wish every doctor could be like Dr. Sánchez!

I also want to mention Nuria, my little angel, who always responded to my questions and concerns with so much warmth and understanding.

I am so happy I chose URE Centro Gutenberg! The care, professionalism and kindness I received were beyond my expectations. I honestly couldn’t ask for more!

“From the very beginning we knew this clinic was different. They were quick, honest, organized and detailed. We have always felt listened to, everything personalized to what we needed and not just a ‘batch number’ or ‘cycle number.’ When we arrived in Barbados, it was incredible from start to finish. Everyone at the clinic is very warm, welcoming and made us feel so comfortable. My body was so happy the entire time! The entire staff was amazing. Our coordinator, Brianna, was so informative and supportive. She was always so quick to respond and answered all of our questions. She is amazing!! Dr. Skinner was thorough, and really took her time with us. She didn’t make me take any medications to make my body to ‘hold out for their cycle’ but saw my body was ready and jumped on the opportunity right then. This was our best cycle we have ever had from my body. We did our retrieval with Dr. Dziura and he was awesome. He made sure to do his very best and also did our transfer. He was very patient with us, informative and we really enjoyed him taking care of us.”

The clinic doctors are really helpful and supportive, as well as understanding and professional. We turned to Dr Halyna Strelko in 2022 and in two years, in November 2024, our first child was born. My partner, 45, and I, 38, went through five rounds of IVF and the fifth time worked very well. There were a lot of nuances, roundabouts, technological interventions etc. but in the end we managed to have a healthy baby and the mother, my partner, is now well too and hopes to have another child in a few years. Fingers crossed, if all goes well, we will turn to IVMED again then. We are really happy about the reproductive assistance, care, and support we received from the clinic. Many thanks for their wonderful work.

How to choose the top IVF clinic in Europe?

First of all, there is no such thing as “the best IVF clinic” or “the worst IVF clinic“. No IVF clinic in the world can work miracles and leave all patients happy and satisfied. The reason is simple: every patient is different. Everyone has a different medical and treatment history, own emotional and psychological aspects as well as completely different expectations. So the clinic that is right for someone else, may not be the best choice for you.

Questions to Ask (before booking)

  • Based on my medical history, what is my prognosis and the clinic’s individual success rates?
  • What is the estimated total cost for my scenario (including meds, tests, add‑ons)?
  • How many in‑person visits are required and when?
  • Which specialists will oversee my case? Any research/publications relevant to my condition?
  • What quality certificates does the clinic hold?
  • Are refund/guarantee programs available? What are the criteria?
  • What’s the policy on embryo number per transfer and PGT‑A indications?
  • For donor programs, how are donors screened and matched?

Struggling to Find an IVF Clinic Abroad? Connect with our Patient Care Advisor today!

What do you need to consider when choosing the top IVF clinic in Europe?

Start by contacting in person, the clinics that you are interested in. When talking with clinics’ representatives, always pay attention to their attitude towards patients and the communication flow you experience. This ease of communication is as important as the clinic’s location, their waiting lists or the type and quality of services they provide, particularly when you‘re based in another country.

There are several things that international patients should ask an IVF clinic:

  • Start by checking the clinic’s website. What kind of information does the clinic publish? Are these only marketing materials? Are patients provided with substantive medical knowledge? Are they transparent about their pricing, age limits, treatment options and additional costs?
  • Learn about the professional experience of IVF specialists and embryologists in the clinic—how long have they been involved in infertility treatment?
  • Ask what the clinic’s IVF experts specialise in—Is there a doctor whose specialty aligns with your personal circumstances and infertility issues?
  • Ask about the scientific publications authored by the clinic’s doctors and embryologists. Are the majority of these publications focused on infertility treatment?
  • Request the clinic to provide its certificates of quality.

Before you visit the European clinic, it’s crucial to ask the following questions:

  • Present your medical history and inquire about your personal prognosis and the clinic’s individual success rates
  • Inquire about the estimated cost of IVF treatment tailored to your specific circumstances.
  • Discover the number of in-person visits required at the clinic throughout your treatment process.

Keep in mind that the end goal is achieving pregnancy and delivering a healthy child. While cost is important, prioritize quality over affordability when exploring IVF treatment, avoiding solely seeking the cheapest IVF options.

Additionally, consider that going for IVF abroad may not always be feasible due to varying legislative systems in popular IVF destinations.

Top IVF clinic in Europe—what does your heart tell you?

If you choose several clinics and contact them one by one asking the right questions, you will definitely feel which one is the right place for you. From the first e-mail contact, you can discover how fast the clinic responds and how IVF specialists and coordinators answer your questions. You will instantly feel whether or not there is support on the other side. Patients will need to feel supported by the clinic during IVF treatment journey. You may find that it is your intuition that ultimately leads you to the clinic that is right for you.

Best country for IVF in Europe – costs vs. success rates vs. timeframe

When deciding on an European IVF clinic, you will likely find yourself having to make a tough choice between three major factors: time, IVF cost, and success rates.

When it comes to IVF, these three factors are mutually exclusive. For example, if you opt for a clinic with high IVF success rates, you can be sure that the treatment will not be done quickly, nor will the option be cheap. A clinic that promises a quick treatment will not be cheap and, statistically speaking, is unlikely to be successful.

It’s important to understand that, when it comes to IVF treatment, taking shortcuts and making hasty decisions can cause disappointment, and heartache and result in a considerably smaller bank balance.

For example, there are many patients from the UK, who travel for IVF egg donation treatment in Europe because the egg donation cost in the UK is high, and egg donors are not widely available. Others travel for IVF with own eggs because generally, IVF treatment costs in the UK are higher than in popular European destinations.

If you are interested in cost of the IVF treatment abroad, you may use our special calculator to check the IVF cost range in popular destinations in Europe.

“Cheap, fast and effective IVF treatment is simply impossible. These three parameters are mutually exclusive. If the treatment is cheap, then, unfortunately, it is not fast and effective. Eventually, it might even turn out to be very expensive. Patients are very often wrongly convinced that a low price of IVF treatment is a real bargain. And then, in most cases, it turns out that they not only lost their money but also – most importantly – their precious time. And it is the passing time that is of the highest value in the whole IVF treatment, not your money. Remember that you can never go back in time – and very often the chances of having your own kids are decreasing with each month. That’s why making the right choice is so extremely important.”

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How important is age-specific treatment in IVF for patients aged 40+?

The fertility potential and egg quality decline in women aged 40 and above, which is the reason for higher success rates of tailored IVF treatments for patients of more advanced maternal age.

While age is an important factor, what other factors should one keep in mind when choosing an IVF clinic?

When choosing an IVF clinic, patients should also consider the success rates, the experience, and qualifications of the medical team, the types of treatments, procedures, and technologies offered, as well as the standard of personalized care and support services provided. Also, it is critical to consider the treatment cost and if the clinic offers financial options or support programs.

For those over 40 exploring IVF, what criteria are important when selecting the right fertility clinic?

Evaluate whether the IVF clinic offers personalized treatment protocols, has an extensive egg donor database, provides IVF with donor eggs, and offers additional advanced techniques like preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidies (PGT-A), among others. Before choosing a clinic, ensure that the medical team is qualified, provides comprehensive support, and communicates clearly.

Why is Spain a popular destination for IVF treatment?

Spain is a leading destination for IVF due to its advanced fertility treatments, high success rates, and strong legal framework for egg and sperm donation. Spanish clinics offer cutting-edge technology and internationally recognized standards of care, making it a popular choice for patients from across the globe.

Which country offers the most affordable IVF in Europe?

Countries like the Czech Republic, Greece, and Latvia are well-known for offering affordable IVF treatments while maintaining high standards. Their competitive prices make them appealing to patients looking for cost-effective fertility options.

Is egg donation widely available in Europe?

Yes, many European countries, including Spain, Greece, and the Czech Republic, have well-established egg donation programs. These countries offer anonymous donor programs and have extensive donor databases, providing options for a wide range of patients.

Are language barriers a concern at European IVF clinics?

Most European clinics that cater to international patients have multilingual staff, and many provide services in English. It’s common to find clinics with translators available, ensuring that communication is smooth throughout the treatment process.

Are there any legal restrictions on IVF in Europe?

Laws governing IVF vary across Europe. For example, in Spain and Greece, egg and sperm donation are anonymous and widely accepted, while in countries like Germany, there are more restrictions on certain procedures, such as egg donation. Patients should always check the regulations of the country they plan to visit.
